Will life go back to "normal" after COVID19?
dining in restaurants

The good news is that covid19 circuit breaker measures in Singapore will be lifted gradually, in phases on 1st June 2020. Something we all have been waiting for. For life to go back to normal.

After being cooped up at home for the past few weeks have made most people restless and wanting to go back to usual ways. However, will life really return to normal?

While we certainly hope that lives goes back to normal, there are signs that it might not be the “normal” we are used to. As shown in Wuhan, China, people are not returning to dining out at restaurants in full force.

“The lockdown has changed people’s behaviours, maybe for good.”

Quoted from an article on Bloomberg. Small business owners in the F&B industry are seeing fewer people dining in at their restaurants after the lockdown. They have observed more people cooking or ordering food online.

Habits of convenience are easy to develop, hard to break

During covid19 circuit breaker, consumers cannot head out to dine at their favourite restaurants. What do they do then? Simply head online to order the food they like and have it delivered to their doorsteps.

After regularly ordering online, consumers start to see the convenience of online ordering and will likely develop a habit. This habit might be here to stay even after circuit breaker measures are lifted.

“So a military has no constant formation, water has no constant shape. The ability to gain victory by changing and adapting according to the opponent is called genius” - Sun Tzu “Art of War”

In this case, the opponent would be the COVID19 virus and the changing habits of consumers. What you as an F&B business owner can do, is adapt to the changing times.

With most Singaporeans ordering food online, a great way to reach more customers, even after circuit breaker, is to have your own online ordering platform.

How do you get started?

Food ordering apps like GrabFood, Food Panda etc., are a popular way to get started with online ordering.
